August 2024
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for being interested enough to come to this website and for your trust in teaching your children.
My name is Rick Clee and I will be teaching your child Principles of Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, or Geometry this year. This is my 24th year teaching math at Parkland and my 20th year teaching at SMS. In other words, I am old.
Math is traditionally viewed as a difficult subject, and I will not deny that it can be challenging at times. However, your child has now reached a level where math will move beyond mere computation and into an arena of thought that is a bit more compelling. This year, we will build upon the familiar concepts of previous math courses and use them as a springboard to launch us into deeper levels of mathematical thinking. Math is our vehicle. Our destination is a sharp and adept mind capable of applying the universal principles of logic and reason.
Students will be engaged in thoughtful discourse on a regular basis. We will discuss, learn, work, and laugh together. As parents, you can also make a significant and lasting contribution toward the education of your children. Please encourage them to keep up with their studies and to actively participate in their classes. A quality learning experience is built upon a cooperative effort between student, parent, and teacher. Please contact me any time that you have a question concerning the progress of your child. It is my hope that you will advise me if at any time there is an issue you think I should know about. Let's stay connected and work together toward the success of your child.
I consider it a great privilege and responsibility to be teaching these students, and I am looking forward to making this a great year.
Sincerely,
Rick Clee
Teacher of Mathematics
